| What is the Young Learners Extension? |
 |
The Cambridge "YL
Extension to CELTA" is a two-week intensive training
course for English language teachers who wish to enter
the field of teaching children. Below are the
details for the 2004 course which took place last summer.
The full details of the course for 2005 will be posted
soon. We will be inviting applications from March 2005 |
 |
 |
Candidates must already have
completed the Cambridge CELTA |
|
|
We strongly believe that EFL professionals should
have access to training that identifies the needs of younger
learners and have the benefit of an internationally recognised
qualification. On successful completion of the Young Learners
Extension course your CELTA certificate will be re-issued by
Cambridge with the YLE endorsement added.
The syllabus covers the practical and psychological differences
between adult students and younger learners, published materials,
boundary setting and safety issues, testing and lesson planning.
Those that have completed the CELTA will recognise the timetable
which is equally split between theoretical sessions and hands
on teaching practice. |

is set in 44 acres of private woodland on the edge
of Ascot town. Ascot is forty-five minutes from Waterloo
Station and then a three minute taxi ride.

We have between 120 and 180 children from the Far East,

are supported by a staff of 40 teachers, activity leaders,
welfare and administration staff.

| Application process |
If you wish to apply for a place on the course, please download
and complete the application
form. Please print off the application form, complete by
hand and post it, together with copies of your qualifications
and three formal references to our London
office. We will contact all three referees as part of the
selection procedure. Each applicant needs to provide us with
a Criminal Research Bureau.(CRB) standard disclosure statement.
This is the applicant's responsibiltity but if you need help
we can assist you in the procedure. Please be aware that this
process can take up to six weeks so it is important to make
the application for the CRB disclosure in plenty of time.
Please note that applicants for the YLE must have passed the
CELTA no more than 18 months prior to the start of the course.
Interviews are arranged for weekdays at our school at 59 South
Molton Street, London. The interviews last about an hour and
are conducted by Gaynor Markham, Director Junior Vacation Courses,
or Alan Whitehead, Director Saxoncourt Teacher Training. Please
bring the originals of your qualifications to the interview.
Successful applicants will have demonstrated their ability to:
a) research target language;
b) plan a one hour language-focused lesson;
c) relate to young children
If you have any questions you would like to put before formally
applying for consideration, please contact
us. |
