Induction

The first week of a teacher's employment in Taiwan usually consists of an induction period and training. As many teachers do not have any training or experience in teaching English to children, there is a focus on teaching younger learners in this time (methodology, use or resources, observing more experienced teachers), but teachers are also introduced to SEST’s other courses and its administration systems.

Teaching English Younger Learners (TEYL) Course

The Saxoncourt Teaching English to Younger Learners (TEYL) course covers all aspects of teaching Younger Learners from 2 years old to High School, and includes:

  • methodology
  • drilling
  • classroom games
  • classroom management
  • how to effectively use textbooks and classroom resources
  • lesson planning
  • teaching phonics, reading and writing
  • observing more experienced teachers
  • written and practical assignments

This training week takes place in Taipei prior to teaching your first class. New Teachers are awarded a Saxoncourt Certificate in TEYL.

Workshops

  • Regular workshops are held throughout the year for special courses or classes and any other areas that teachers request help with.

Academic support

  • Regular individual and group meetings, appraisals and observation feedback sessions will continue to be held between the teacher and their Director Line Manager throughout the teacher's time with the school.
  • These occasions are an integral part of the support structure offered by Shane English Schools to its teachers, being a forum for a beneficial exchange of ideas as well as an opportunity for the teacher to discuss any problems they may be having in their classes.
