There are 34 Shane English schools spread throughout
Taiwan with more planned. The majority of the
schools are in the Taipei and Taipei County area
but there are a number of schools scattered down
the west coast of the country with Taiwan’s
second biggest city, Kaoshiung being the most
southernly school location. Each location has
it own unique selling point.
Taipei / Taipei County
- Offers the ‘Asian experience’
with the added comfort of knowing that other
foreigners and western style restaurants, pubs
and clubs are close at hand
- Plenty to do and see and easy to get away
for day trips and short breaks
- Due to the high number of experienced teachers
in Taipei (summer 2003 = 60 full time) new teachers
have plenty of support both socially and academically
South of Taipei
- The majority of school locations are over
1 hour South of Taipei by train, bus or plane
- Living in these locations offers excellent
opportunities for teachers to more fully immerse
themselves in the culture and the language
- Teachers living here tend to have a close
group of foreign and Chinese friends
- Good opportunities to get out of the city/town
and enjoy the beautiful mountainous scenery
that Taiwan has to offer
- Living costs outside of Taipei are generally
lower, thus a south of Taipei location may be
a better option for teachers hoping to save
more money during their stay
