Lessons

  • A standard group lesson is 55 minutes once a week.
  • Many adult students opt to take private one-to-one lessons, sometimes in addition to their group lesson.
  • Private lessons can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours
  • It is common for teachers to have lots of short private lessons during a standard day.
  • Intensive Course students may study up to 3.5 hours per day.

Daily Schedules

  • Teachers will work according to a 9-hour shift (eg 1-10, 9-6, 12.30-9.30)
  • Includes 1 hour of meal breaks
  • At least one hour of preparation time before first lesson
  • Up to six hours of teaching
  • Teachers usually work afternoons/evenings
  • There are also special spring and summer seasonal classes for primary age children which take place between 10a.m. and 12a.m. for which teachers are paid overtime.
Weekly Schedules
  • Teachers are usually given a regular schedule of five working days per week
  • 3 or 4 different schools during the week 
  • The schedule is designed to allow teachers to see the same students, at the same location, at the same time, each week.
  • Some 6-day weeks during the year (13 in total)
  • Average 26 teaching hours per week
Days Off
  •  Sunday plus another (non-consecutive) day off (eg Sunday plus Wednesday) or:
  •  If you work Sundays, two consecutive weekdays off (eg Tuesday plus Wednesday).
  •  Days off usually remain the same for a year
  •  Second year teachers have top priority in getting Sunday/Monday or Saturday/Sunday off.
