Induction
The first week of a teacher's employment in China usually consists of an induction period and training. As many teachers do not have any training or experience in teaching English to children, there is a focus on teaching younger learners in this time (methodology, use or resources, observing more experienced teachers), but teachers are also introduced to SESC’s other courses and its administration systems.

Teaching English Younger Learners (TEYL) Course
The Saxoncourt Teaching English to Younger Learners (TEYL) course covers all aspects of teaching Younger Learners for 2 years old to High School.

The course includes:

  • Methodology
  • Drilling
  • Classroom games
  • Classroom management
  • How to effectively use textbooks and classroom resources
  • Lesson planning
  • Observing more experienced teachers
  • Written and practical assignments
  • Workshops

This training week takes place in Shanghai or Beijing (for Beijing teachers only) prior to teaching their first class.

New teachers are awarded a Saxoncourt Certificate in TEYL.

Workshops
Regular workshops are held throughout the year for special courses or classes and any other areas that teachers request help with.

Academic support
Regular individual and group meetings and observation feedback sessions will be held between the teacher and their on site Director of Studies throughout the teacher's time with the school.

These occasions are an integral part of the support structure offered by Shane English Schools to its teachers, being a forum for a beneficial exchange of ideas as well as an opportunity for the teacher to discuss any problems they may be having in their classes.

Teachers living in cities other than Shanghai and Beijing are kept up to date by email and by phone by the Director of Studies for franchises based in Shanghai.
