Lessons

  • Young Learners lessons last between 30-90 minutes.
  • Adult lessons last between 1 to 3 hours.

Daily Schedule

  • A working day is based on a shift of 9 hours with a one-hour break.
  • Some schools may operate a 10-hour shift with a 2 hours lunch break.
  • The maximum number of hours a teacher would teach on any one day is 6.
  • Teachers should expect to work between the hours of 8:00am and 9:30pm.
  • Sometimes teachers are asked to work a split shift.
  • Teachers can work at more than one location on any given day, and at different locations on different days of the week.
  • Teaching locations are both in Shane schools and in outside locations.
  • Travel is usually less than an hour to and from each location, 30 minutes on average.
  • The teacher’s school covers all travel costs.

Weekly Schedule

  • Teachers are usually given a regular schedule of five working days per week.
  • At times a teacher would be required to work a 6th day to cover absent colleagues.
  • Although teachers may teach the same classes at set times of the day and week, schedules can change from week to week.
  • Average of 18 contact hours per week.

Days Off

  • Teachers have two non-consecutive days off per week, for example, Monday and Thursday.
  • The schools are open on Saturday and Sunday.
  • These are the busiest days of the week and teachers should expect to work one, usually both, weekend days.
