English Teacher Training - CELTA, Trinity, TESOL courses - EFL Recruitment - ESL Employment

Recruitment > China > Locations

The majority of EFL teaching is centred in the major cities of Shanghai and Beijing, where the demand for English is high.

However, the rest of China is catching up and opportunities to teach in more ‘rural’ areas are increasing. Shane English Schools China serves both of these important markets.

Beijing and Shanghai

  • International and cosmopolitan cities hosting both the traditional and the modern in Chinese culture.
  • Opportunities to do everything and anything – both Chinese and western style.
  • More schools, therefore providing an instant social network for Shane teachers.
  • Head offices based within each city.
  • Cost of living slightly higher (city weighting allowance provided).

Outside of Shanghai and Beijing

  • There are SESC recognised franchises in the cities of Xian (Shanxi Province), Jinan (Shangdong Province) Dongying (Shangdon province), Shijiazhuang (Hebei province), Hangzhou (Zhejiang), Suzhou (Jiangsu), Dalian (Laioning).
  • All of these locations are steeped in tradition and history and worth more than a flying visit.
  • These locations offer excellent opportunities for teachers to be more fully immersed in the culture and the language.
  • Teachers living in these cities tend to have a closer group of Chinese friends and of course fellow foreigners.
  • Living costs outside of the 2 main cities are generally lower, thus a better option for teachers hoping to save more money during their stay.
  • Teachers need to be slightly more independent in terms of their academic and welfare needs.
  • The best option for the more adventurous.
