Your students:
Expect to teach mostly adults, although schools are starting to open classes for every age group.

Recruitment criteria set by immigration policies, Most schools would ask for teachers who have:

  • A native level of English
  • A degree
  • Experience (at least 6 months in the same institution)
  • A CELTA or Trinity TESOL certificate

When to apply?
Most schools function all year round which also means that recruitment takes place at any time during the year.

Salaries and benefits:
Usually salaries go from £400 to £800. Usually schools also pay for visa applications, flights and offer an end of contract bonus.

Pros:
Low cost of living. Travel opportunities. Generally South American countries have a warm climate.

Cons:
It is a very popular destination for teachers, which job hunting can be a little competitive. The visa process can take over 6 months, before you can set foot in the country.

The school:

The school is based mostly in Lima. As their student numbers increase, the need for qualified teachers has increased as well. The school prides itself on the mix of language teaching and cultural awareness that teachers bring to the students and make their model so successful.

 

The teaching:

Most of your students will be adults. However be prepared to teach any age group and any level. You would also be expected to participate to cultural activities to bring a bit of your culture to the table and be ready to explain or discuss some aspects of it with Peruvians.

 

Qualifications:

You must:

- Have a native level of English

- Have at least a year's experience teaching TEFL in the same language school

- Have a degree

- Have a CELTA or Trinity TESOL

- Be enthusiastic and passionate about teaching
